One final post tonight about the Bush fiscal 2009 budget: Where the hell was OMB Director Jim Nussle?

I can understand him not being on yesterday's Sunday talk shows.  Those producers probably didn't want the OMB director of the outgoing administration when they could get presidential candidates just before Super Tuesday.  And, in following the tradition set by the Bush administration, the White House almost certainly didn't want him to appear anyway.

A "Why bother?" is what you get when you go into a Starbucks and order a decaf coffee with extra sugar and extra milk.

It's also what you get why you look at the Bush fiscal 2009 budget. 

The Bush fiscal 2009 budget was released this morning.  Senate Budget Comittee Ranking Republican Judd Gregg (NH) has already been telling reporters that it's a sham full of gimmicks and unsubtantiated savings.

If the ranking R on the Senate Budget Committee isn't pulling his punches, the criticism from Democrats later today is not going to be pretty.

I'll have more on this when it's released tomorrow morning, but with a projected $400 billion plus deficit, $3 trillion or more in spending, and program cuts that few, if any Republicans will support, it is time to do what needs to be done: The Bush fiscal 2009 budget is so dead that it may not even make it to the Monday evening political talk shows.

Ask yourself this question: Would you rather cover the Super Tuesday primaries or the budget of a lame duck president that his own party will run away from?
